Hi all,

I'm interested in building a computer or the first time and fancy making a htpc. It doesn't need to be fancy and i have a pretty modest budget of £300 (or less if possible). It wont be used for any photo/video editing but id like to do some moderate gaming on it if possible. I'm thinking maybe get a MB with inbuilt graphics or something then purchasing a card later on when budget allows. Id like to be able to play blu rays off it and stream netflix and the like.

I'm mainly doing this as I've always wanted to have a crack at building something but the massive amounts of components out there have left me scratching my head!

please take pity on this lowly noob.

Cheers

that was quick! So will the a6's graphics be up to a little bit of gaming? I'm used to ps3 level graphics and was keen on emulating that. Also, seeing as this little fella will be at under my tv i wont need a monitor.

hi,

I had considered a mitx build but didn't know if it would be suitable because I was under the impression that i'd need an Intel processor and i thought that might push the price up to high and, on a more practical level, having never built anything before I thought a mitx might be a bit fiddly. i was thinking maybe pick up a atx/matx desktop case on ebay seeing as any decent new one seems quite expensive.
something like this

The idea was that it was going to sit under the tv i the living room so would need to fit on a tv unit.

saying that the bitfenix prodigy case is a thing of beauty!
You sir have put the cat among the pidgeons!
