SLI vs crossfire at 1080p?

The 680 is smoother, AMD is a little rough until they get the newest drivers out, but there are ways around that (frame limiters). The 7970s also come with ~$300 in free games. Read articles on the subject.

You certainly don't need 4GB cards at 1080p though.

Eyefinity is AMDs solution. Nvidias is 3D surround. There ARE differences and AMD does usually do better at multimonitor. I'd really suggest you look at the 7990 article on Toms for analysis of the stutter issue in crossfire/SLI.

Bottom line is right now Nvidia is better. I'm pretty confident AMD will improve their issue soon though and am actually interested in a lot of the free games, so if I personally were getting them id get 7970s.

micro stutter has never really been that bad for ME though, and I wouldn't flat out recommend AMD to everyone in light of their current micro stutter issue. I just don't flat out rule them out like lots of people seem to want to. Driver issues happen to everyone and too many people have been happy with crossfire for a long time go get overly excited over a temporary issue

I don't mind having a few fps difference just want the best quality gaming, what I like about Nividia is the advanced PhysX, however I would like to do eyefinity so should I go with the 7970?

Nvidia is going to have better quality right now. See the micro stutter issue.

Its a little hard to keep up with the differences, but a main one is that Nvidia is set up to allow 3 displays and an accessory display, and the displays and connections are supposed to be identical. Eyefinity allows a 5x1 display setup (or 3x2, 3x1 etc) with monitors in portrait mode, and some mixing and matching of displays. Its also been around longer. And is just more flexible. But you will need to use at least one display port active adapter if your monitors don't have display port with AMD. If these differences could be important to you id suggest looking into them to get the most up to date info.

If you plan to use 3 identical 1080p monitors they should be very very similar. If you're also interested in Physx, and not concerned about the games or price difference nvidia is probably the best choice.

I think I'll go with a 4 gb 680, do you recommend any models, thanks

In general I would lean toward Asus on only their general quality, or perhaps gigabyte. BUT I have not bought a card from them in years. Normally I get sapphire cards which are AMD only, so I'd get other input.

Just be very thorough and plan the whole setup all out ahead, you're probably talking about $1500 here. Don't want to be $1000 in and realize you overlooked something later.
