I've seen people with more than one GPU, and they're different cards. So I take it they are not SLI and not running games with them at the same time.

So, why have 2 different GPUs and not use them SLI for gaming?

In gaming, the only thing I can think of is using a secondary graphics card for PhysX. So your main card would handle the graphics, and the second one would handle the PhysX.

For non-gaming tasks there are many options for using individual graphics cards for computational purposes. Folding@Home for example.

Driving more monitors than primary card can support, GPGPU/compute tasks, Phsyx, Playing multiple games/MMO accounts on different monitors w/o each copy of the client effecting the performance of the other.
