displayport link failure

I recently buy Dell u2412m is work fine with DVI and DP to DVI Adopter, but when i connect only DP(displayport ) to DP cable is not display anything and goes to power sleep mode. When i connect monitor through DVI it show about DP
"display port link failure" and this block say about resolution problem and might be cable problem.
"if some one know or have same issue before so pls share with me"

but i don't understand your replay this message showing which cable that you use DVI or DP

but i hooked up only Desktop with DP and nothing show on my desktop, the failure notice show when i again hooked up my pc to DVI
one thing when i try to connect my muilte monitors (dell u2412m and dell sp23ow9 u24 hooked up DP and sp23 DVI) only DVI show display not DP one but when i goes control panel>appearance and resonalization>display>screen resolution -display it show both (u24 & sp23) monitor
