I have an Inspiron 560. The website shows there is no CPU upgrades for this model. And i swore i read on this site someone said there is a possible CPU upgrade for this model. However with this model being so old i dont know if its going to meet the demand for games to come. thanks

Hi
Do not flame now - that`s just my point.
Sell it dude ...
Build you own PC and you have upgrade options hat you like in the next 2-3 years.
And keep on mind that Gaming is = Video Card and CPU like 70 % for the VGA and 30 % to CPU .....

Ok start you on project ....
Post the price you `r ready to spend and i think you get some PC specs to build you own PC
I`ll respond to that post :)

And 6670 is only good for teenage kids game - atleast my son of 7 have one and it`s fine for now ....
the only bitch was Star Wars Force Unleashed that he could play only with CPU OC :)

As it appears, you should be able to upgrade the CPU in that computer. The best thing you can do is confirm the socket on the motherboard just to make sure.
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-560_User%27s%20Guide_en-us.pdf

But I would like to highlight, you are upgrading in a dead socket. While you may see performance increase, it won't be as much as starting fresh. And there are tons of videos and guides on how to put a computer together.

Ok guys im going to make up a list here of a decent build and hopefully someone can leave feedback and help me through

i have a quick question though on the CPU. Is the Phenom 2 x4 965 still good enough for gaming?

also on the GPU i have the hd 6670 and it handles extremly well for what i throw at it, however what would you recommend to bump it up to but not spend a boatload and can handle the average gamer?

Nov, 2009 is too old for CPU as we talk about Phenom 2 x4 965
And 6670 is OK but not for serriose GAMING ...
128 bit bus is not what you need for good gaming

Well if we take out Intel from the equation so fast :)

FX-8150 is the rivel i think - you can compare you self
Phenom 2 x4 965 4.8 point`s vs FX-8150 5.4 points and 6,7 Points vs FX-8350

If you give us a budget of what you can afford, we can give you some ideas. If you want to take a look at gaming rigs at price points, read the quarterly builds here on Toms (here). They will give you "good, better and best" setups at small, medium and large costs. Just remember that those builds do NOT include the operating system ($~100) or the monitor (~150 ^).

Ok then

Yep, DDR3 is still the standard today.

The cpu I picked overclocks very well and the gpu is the fastest you can get the will run on the power supplied by the PCIe slot alone. While the build would not be a gamer's dream, it will give you enough grunt to see if you really like gaming.

Do yourself a favor and look through the last 2 or 3 builders marathons here on THG. Look at the different components in the low end builds and then read the reviews on those items - they are all over the web.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Good luck with your build and I agree with Barto - put your money aside until you can buy it all at once. Nothing worse that buying some now, some later and finding one of the "now" pieces is dead on arrival and the return period is past.

Thanks for your help! Ill check those guides out after work. But as stated earlier the Phenom 2 is outdated. Is it in any way shape or form better to spend a few extra dollars to get a new architecture?

Also do you prefer ATi over NVIDIA? or is nvidia a better choice? I always see games sponswer nvidia and never see any ATi in game intros

Yes the 4300FX is only 20 bucks more and is more powerful. As for difference between Nvidia and AMD, not too much. Each brand has the games it is coded to work well with. I'm guessing you just happen to buy the games that have Nvidia marketed in the load screen.

I am not going to stop you from buliding your new dream, just to let you know that maximum upgrade to your Inspiron 560 is Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9400, 6 MB, 2.66 GHz, 1033 MHz, LGA775, 95 watt.
Just FYI.
