Is it worth it to overclock i5 3570k for gaming?

I'm using stock cooler and currently am at 3.9GHz. Not gonna push further as prime95 has high temps(80+ on small FFTs) after 4.0GHz. Would it give me noticeable extra performance in games? Will be also getting 7870 tahiti le.

I have an amd 8350 and the Sapphire 7870xt(tahiti) and have found that the combination works well. The gpu overclocks very well as can the cpu but for what purpose! The extra heat and shortened lifespan of your parts for a percentage increase in fps at this time seems misplaced. Wait until your hardware is more dated and actually needs the oc potential to play future games.

3570k is a powerful cpu itself...you dont need to overclock it
it will adjust automatically with respect to games

My mates 2500k will demoloish every game on the market at stock clocks, so the answer is no. I can foresee the new x86 chipped consoles helping to push game resources up somewhat, but given the power restrictions of those processors it is unlikely there will be any games that a recent intel quad wont be able to handle at stock.
