I have been debating this for a while and I have come to no clear conclusion. I plan on doing a bountiful anmount of gaming along with a good of CAD. I am wondering if I should even bother with a 680 or should I just buy a cheap one right now and wait for the 700 series?

Solution
1. Do you have more than one monitor? if yes - buy it.

If you are gaming on one monitor at 1920x1080 don't buy more then 3GB max. You'll never put it to use. By the time games start using over 2GB is when the card will be outdated. Games only use that much when you have 30+ mods installed.

If i had listened to most people a little over a year ago i would have 2 - 1 GB video cards in my 2 systems. The way technology is going it would not suprise me if 4 GB is the norm in a year or two. If you can use the card now and don't expect to upgrade for a while the 680 may make sense.

In a year or two the 670/680 will not be fast enough to run those games at settings high enough to use more than 2GB of VRAM.
