Hi!.

What do you think about this cheap build? Its for a familiar that doesn't require a lot of power, just a new pc for browsing, word, etc. Now she is using a pentium IV from 2005....... PIV preshott's power is enough, but the pc is almost dead (a lot of failures, shuting down, etc...).

-Cooler Master Elite 371 (with 1 fan included) 39€
-2 extra fans Schyte slip stream 12x12 800 rpm. (6€ each)

-Corsair CX500 V2 500 W Builder Series 80 Plus Bronce 57€
-Asus P8B75-M LX Plus (enough with integrated graphics/sound cards) 59€
-Pentium G2020 2.9Ghz 54€
-RAM: G.Skill DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 8GB-2x4 CL11 56.95€
-HD: Barracuda 7200.14 500GB SATA3 or SSD Crucial M4 64GB (I think that with an external HD.... the SSD with 64GB it would be more than enough).

How do you see this cheap build? CM Elite 371 only has 1 fan build-in.... the 2 extra fans are enough? where I must put them?

And two more things

-Windows XP (OS she is using now) is reaching the end of his life (support life).... then..... what do you recomend? adquire now Windows 7 or go with windows 8 (using it till she can update to windows blue/9)?

-SSDs works fine on ubuntu or maybe lubuntu? (TRIM for example) or its hard to properly configure it instead of just install it?

That build might be a little overkill for what you need.

Good choice on the CPU.

4GB of RAM would probably cut it.

That rig would generate very little heat so I wouldn't be concerned at all about cooling. Don't worry about extra case fans, you won't even need the one that comes with the case.

I would definitely get an SSD if you don't need a ton of space. They make a big difference. My Crucial M4 works great in Ubuntu.

Could probably cut down a lot on the power supply. That rig will barely use 100W.

RAM maybe would be ok with just 4GB. The power supply is not for "total power" its just for the quality, the minimum power from corsair is 500w (I think). And probably the problems she is having now is fault of generics power supply (the third from 2005), I just wanted corsairs quality, not power :).

overkill for that use? well, maybe, but think she is a person that don't change pc in years. And if Pentium IV build were working ok without failures... probably she won't need a new pc.

and about the heat.... in my house, with my gaming rig and Antec Twelve Hundred and all fans included... it gets more ºC than normal.

Well, I would like an HX series or maybe AX but it would be stupid for that build :). From spanish site "Pccomponentes.com" what PSU would you recommend for 50/60 euros)
