Having trouble with Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

I can't get it to fit on the brackets without applying WAY too much force down on the CPU and MOBO. Actually, even the stock CPU heatsink was a very tight fit. I'm not sure if either I have it sitting wrong or it's just too tight of a fit. I am, currently using the stock heatsink. However, I would really like to test the OC boundaries of this CPU, but don't want to bust the board (or anything else for that matter) trying to use the Hyper 212 +. Any suggestions? Is it supposed to fit so tight that i can barely get it on?

MOBO = Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
CPU = Phenom II X4 965 BE

I think so. The CPU and stock heatsink have been working fine. Although, I wasn't able to tighten the stock heatsink down with the little arm because it was SO tight as is. My temps have been good with the stock cooler, but would like to OC a bit more. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, honestly. The CPU seems to be sitting properly but it sticks out too far to get the Hyper 212+ to sit on it and still bolt it down.

"The CPU seems to be sitting properly but it sticks out too far.."

This statement is a little contradictory. You say it's "sitting properly" but it also "sticks out too far".

I can't quite see what you're doing unfortunately. If the high-tension arm that keeps the CPU locked in place can't lock your CPU likely isn't seated properly. Older CPU's have pins that can get damaged. I don't know what your CPU is like.

*You absolutely MUST have that CPU arm locked in place.

Once it's WORKING, don't forget to setup your fan management:
1) enable fan management in the BIOS
2) optionally download and configure the appropriate software from your motherboard support site

The CPU arm is locked in place. The arm on the heatsink that came with the CPU (it has a locking arm, too) is not. No pins are damaged. Thank you for the video, though. I was doing everything correctly. I'm not sure... maybe it's just a really tight fit.

I kind of figured that. Sorry. Hopefully, I will be able to get some pictures on here tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for all the help so far.

As per the video, you can sometimes have warping issues if you don't cross-screw. You need to loosely tighten the screws, then alternate between them (top-left, then bottom-right for example) tightening a little bit at a time and REPEAT several times until they're tightened.

Unless you have a piece incorrectly installed or your product is defective I can't think what else it could be.

The bracket has a small metal tab that has to go into a small hole on the top of the heat sink. When I installed mine, I put the paste on, the got the bracket and tab seated properly. Then you can start fastening the screws
