Using a linksys router, I cant stay connected with my desktop pc, I am using a ASUS PCI-E wireless adapter to connect, my cousins and brother are all in the same room on the connection as well and can stay connected, you would think if it couldnt handle everything when I try to connect someone would get kicked.

I've checked my wireless adaptrs and they are up to date, what else could I try? Their are a total of 3 pcs on the connection now, im just trying to connect, we have never had this problem before.

I think your wireless card is bad. Test your card on another computer... I know it's tougher with a PCI-E card but that's the best way to test your card.

I would strongly consider replacing it. It's cheap (under $40.00) and easier to test... plus you are guaranteed to have working wireless.

Hm... could still be your card but there are a few other things to think about here.
1) Are you losing connection (aka dropping) or is it slow?
2) From where your wireless card sits, what is between the card and the wireless router? Water pipes, microwaves, and other mechanical devices can kill wireless signals.

Uhm the connection is dropping, ill connect, lose it, then about 30 seconds later itll reconnect, and that process repeats. The only thing between my tower and the router is a couch and a lamp.

Their are no security settings on the network. My card is probabaly 3 months old. And when I run an ethernet cable i lag so bad i cant even play WoW but everyone else is fine.

Well I just shut down my pc, and moved about 4 feet away from the router and it seems to be working as of now.. going on about 5 mins and I havent been disconnected yet, running a scan now.

A lot of wireless routers have problems when different spec devices try to connect wirelessly. Linksys has this problem.
When you mix 802.11 B-G-and N devices on the same wireless network the radio has to keep switching modes, causing dropped connections.
Try changing the wireless router to "Mixed Mode" in the configuration utility . This will limit the throughput to a slower speed for better stability.

I guess thinking about it this router is kind of old, how often should you update your routers? I bet this one has been around for like 5-6 years. And what would you recommend? Around the $100 area?

They are usually replaced when they don't work properly or are missing newer features.
You could try upgrading the firmware on the device.

If not I would get a replacement.

I have had good luck with the custom firmware Tomato and DD-WRT is good too but this might be above and beyond what you want to do.

I would look up a few different models on newegg.com or a similar site and read ratings. I also wouldn't spend more than $75.00 unless you need something above and beyond what is offered in that price range. If you don't know what you need then you don't need to spend extra $$$. Ratings and reviews are the most important. Good firmware (the interface you will be looking at when you set it up), reliability and a decent warranty are the most important things. Aside from that it should support 802.11 N and external antennas provide better signal power.
