A few weeks ago my laptop power button was on, but the screen was entirely black. I restarted it a few times. I took it to a shop called QC Computer Shop. They charged 175$ (Aus dollars) to get it fix. They said the ram just broke somehow. My laptop had 1GB Of RAM, now i got 2. Was the price worth it? How did the ram just suddenly brake?

The RAM could have gotten an electrostatic shock, or had a voltage spike. Pretty uncommon if you didn't open it though.
$175 is way overpriced for 2GB of RAM, even if they had to fault-find first.

Well, depends on what kind of RAM it was. Probably under $40 for the components, but maybe a couple of hours labour and they do need to make some profit. Plus sales tax.
