Yes, SSDs need to be in AHCI mode regardless of how they are going to be used.

Since my laptop has alrery an ssd running the os from the manufacturer does this mean that has already ahci on or should I change the settings for the second drive as well? Can you please tell me how to do it if it is needed?

SATA ports can have 3 settings (modes): IDE, AHCI, and RAID.
You have to boot into your laptop's BIOS and see if it has an option to change SATA modes. Read your User Manual and see if it has instructions on how to enter BIOS and change SATA modes.
