ive got a crappy coolmax v600 PSU (600 watts), my MOBO requires a 8pin12v atx connect, which this PSU does not have. so ive bought a 4pin to 8pin converter, which works fine for running the pc its self. but, durring high end gaming (skyrim, battlefield 3, planteside2) my entire system will reboot within 5min or so with zero warning; no frame loss, no artifacts, no drop in performance visually, just boom. im assuming from what ive read that it is my power supply, but im not sure if its the overall wattage output (again, 600watts), or the fact that i have the 4 to 8 pin 12volt atx adapter. my GPU is a gtx660 sc, with a minimum requirement of 450 watts, AND a minimum of 24 amps on the 12v rail, via the box it came in. i feel like im answering my own question here, but id love to rule out A: if its the 4 to 8 pin adapter causing the issue and B: if 600w is enuff head room for high end gaming on my set up. here are my other details:cpu: intel I3, 3.30 sandy. RAM:2 8gb g-skill ripjaw ddr3. Hard drive: just a plain old crappy 150g hard drive. OS: windows 7 64bit ultimate... also, im on a fresh install, all drivers up to date. games start up and run beautifully untill they crash. its my first post ever so take it easy on a brotha. THANKS!
