If you can afford a 7950 then get it, it will out perform any of these cards. The next best would go to the 660 Ti in my opinion. The 7870 XT and the 660 Ti perform so close but if you look at power consumption the 7870 XT is like a GTX 480 v2.0. By the way I only recommend the 660 Ti if you can find it on sale for around $260 or less which you usually can at NCIX. If you can't then just get a 7870 XT but make sure you have a good PSU, a quality 550W unit would be great.

EDIT: Okay, maybe not GTX 480 v2.0 but it does tend to use more power than a 7950.

I was considering the same thing and even thought 7870 XT is on par with 660 Ti and 7950 is a lot better than 660 Ti (7950 and 660Ti cost the same where I live) I would go for 660Ti as it has a lot lower frame latency than AMD cards and is more power efficient (stock 7870 XT eats more power than stock 7950 and overclocked 660Ti eats less than both of AMD cards at stock frequencies).

But, since nvidia is (rumor) planning to release rebranded 700 series next month, it is better to wait a bit and see what will that be like (760Ti should be a bit better than 670 for the price of 660Ti. So my final advice - wait a few weeks.

AMD is releasing a whole new set of drivers that will solve this frame rating issue.
