Long Read...I apologize in advance!

tl;dr: Have 1155 HSF and trying to resurrect 305t. Will thermal epoxy the heat sink to Altera chip. Would it be possible to drive OEM Intel fan off converted 5V to 12V USB power?

**** Details Below ****

After receiving so much helpful info on my system build, I decided I might try TH for an answer to a much more unusual question. I have a Samsung 305t+ that I am trying to bring back from the grave. It's an infamous monitor, with a built-in failure feature caused by non-existent cooling. I have taken my first stab at reflowing the Altera graphics chip per threads like this one at HardOCP: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1527751. I haven't yet tested the monitor, but I'm optimistic we'll be back in business.

Here's the quandary: I have a spare OEM Intel 1155 HSF assembly that I would like to use a replacement cooling setup. My plan is to use some thermal adhesive to affix the heat sink, cut away enough plastic from the back cover to allow for the HSF assembly to be exposed to the air, and figure out a way to drive a fan using the monitor’s USB hub. The Intel fan is a Foxconn unit marked CNFN2436M1, 1A01RY300-had, DC 12V 0.17A. The monitor was manufactured in 2008, so I believe the onboard USB should be 5V 500mA. My research indicates that the 5V USB stepped up to 12V will bring the amperage down to 208mA. I’m thinking this would not be enough to drive the fan, even at very low RPM.

I might be able to get away with the heat sink alone in what would effectively be an open air setup, but would love to have a fan that could be driven by the monitor’s onboard USB hub, since this should be a switched power source. Would also love to be able to hide the power cabling within the back cover!
I’m no electrician and rarely delve into the realm of circuits and wiring, but the power board’s capacitors look to be in like new condition, so I’m guessing these were replaced when I sent the monitor in for a service ~1.5 years ago, hence my focus on the graphics board. If this fan is a nonstarter, does anyone know of an 80mm fan that might do the job?

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

Still hoping for help. Would this be better posted in another section of the forum? Going to stick on the CPU cooler as soon as the thermal epoxy shows up. If nothing else, I'll post back with results.
