New Rig not as powerfull as expected :/

hello!

I bought a new rig about 3-4 months ago The budget was quite low however here are the specs

specs:-

mobo: ASUS P8B75MLX

Ram: corsair vengeance 1600 Mhz 16gb

GX card : Zotac Geforce GTX 660

CPU: i7-3770k 3.50 Ghz

HDD: 1 TB WD regular (Don't know much about HDDs)

I run a 64bit windows 8

I am getting good performance while running games as in no lags and anything

and good FPS however regular tasks like running photoshop coppying files and other small tasks are not as quick as I expected :/

What changes ca I do to my hardware to maximize the performance

Buy an SSD. I noticed you have a regular HDD and yes, working with Photoshop on a regular HDD is a pain.

Here's some good SSD's:

- Samsung 830 or 840 (really popular)
- Crucial M4
- Corsair Force Series (What I own)
- OCZ Vertex

Intel also makes SSD's too.

As everyone else has stated, an SSD is the best thing you can do to increase performance. I would however also like to suggest the Kingston Hyper-X 3k series

While I agree a SSD can improve performance, you should run adobe apps fine even in a HDD. Have you checked if the Hyper-Threading, SpeedStep, and Turbo Boost are enabled in the Bios? Is the ram at 1600 Mhz?

Or, purchase an identical hard drive and put it in RAID 0.

Copying files is limited to the read/write speed of the hard drive. It is not affected by the CPU unless you have an obsolete single core CPU running at less than 1GHz. Probably a little lower than that.

If you want better performance copying files then you need either faster hard drives or SSD. If you are copying to/from two physical hard drives, then both must be the same speeds (5400RPM, 7200MP, etc) to realize any benefit. A SSD (solid state drive) is much faster than a hard drive (HDD), but it is also much more expensive. When copying from HDD to a SSD or SSD to HDD, the speed is still slowed down by the HDD. To maximize file transfers, both drives needs to be SSDs.

Depending on what you are doing in Photoshop, it can take some time because Photoshop is CPU intensive. Not sure how much of an improvement you were expecting, but that depends on what PC you had before.

Lack of proper watts on the 12v rails can impede power between hardware.

16gb ram, is that 4 x 4 or 2 x 8gb? What's the serial number of the ram, brand?

Adobe recommends and testing has verified that an optimal hdd configuration involves an OS, scratch, source, and a destination drives.
