Hardware vendors perform OEM activation by associating the OS to the firmware (basic input/output system, or BIOS) of the computer prior to shipping, so if when I get my new pc turned on and running with my programs and I decide to delete Win8 and do an install of Win7, what happens, if anything, with 7 and the BIOS? Doesn't Win7 also set up its own parameters to the BIOS just like Win8? Isn't that doable?

If you are doing a fresh install from a retail or oem dvd, you are setting up all of the microsoft "entries" at that time. When you connect to the web, the authentication proceedure notes your configuration and "registers" your key to that setup.

Before you do this, make sure you make your set of repair dvds in case you want to revert to the original win8, or set up your pc to dual boot.
