System RAM not usable

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C675D-S7109 laptop, running Win7 Home Premium. The system Control Panel reports that only 1.6 of 4.0 GB system RAM is usable, confirmed via Task Manager Performance tab. Any ideas why the system would not have all 4 GB usable?

Thanks in Advance! ... Lou

Okay, I tried testing each 2 GB PC3-10700 RAM module by pulling both, then trying to boot with one or the other installed.

Each module worked OK when installed in RAM slot 1 (outermost slot) by itself. The system, however, still reported 1.6 GB of 2.0 GB was usable.

When I installed each module in RAM slot 2 (inner slot), neither would boot the PC. I assume the issue is that this PC model requires a module in slot 1.

When both modules are installed, the system still reports 1.6 GB of 4.0 is usable. There is no message indicating hardware is reserving memory.

Go to the run box and type in mscofig and select it then select the boot tab and the Advanced button. Where it says maximum memory check that box and use the up arrow until you see 4gb , then hit ok and then apply and do a restart. You should now see all the ram and be useable.
