E-series APUs were designed as low power chips (18W vs the more normal 35W). They were really meant for ultraportables (13 inch and under) and not primary use laptops. Unfortunately nearly every manufacturer misuses these chips in full sized laptops that can easily sport a 35W mainstream-performance chip. Intel doesn't run into this problem since they strictly control what chips go into what kind of laptop designs.

That said, if you can return or exchange the laptop, go with an AMD A-series (A6 or A8) or an Intel Pentium Bxxx. Those should be around the same price point. Otherwise, you can always resell it.
