Hey guys, I need to find a cpu cooler for this board and since it isnt compatible with a back plate this is proving to be difficult to find one for an FM2 cpu. Im aware theres a few low profile Scythe ones that work but I dont want a low profile since I already have my RAM and that would interfere with it.

Can't make out what you mean by "isnt compatible with a back plate"... also; a low profile cooler probably won't interfere with the RAM sticks... the ASRsrock FM2a85x itx mobo may have the RAM sockets on top instead of the right, but the socket is also sideways so the socket-to-ram clearance is about the same as in a regular motherboard.

Any CPU Cooler compatible with AM3\AM3+ is compatible with FM2... some are Compatible with AM2\AM2+\AM3\AM3+\FM1\FM2\and Intel 775\1155\1156\1366\2011... Others may say they are compatible with some of these, but they were probably marketed before the latest Sockets were avilable, so obviously they appear to be compatible with 2 or 3 sockets when they should be compatible with all or at least most of them. So, you shouldn't have trouble finding one that's appropriate for your setup. Any that upright should be right for your need.

No, the board wasnt designed to allow coolers that mount using a back plate there are a few little chips right under the cpu. Take a look and youll see what I mean. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157357

Well, I don't think that metal back plate is for AMD... very few AMD motherboards will take a metal back plate, they use a rectangular plastic plate. So the X shaped plate included in AMD-Intel compatible Coolers, is for Intel motherboards. Your motherboard doesn't use a back plate but secures the cooler bracket with plastic pegs like the Intel 478 socket. So in theory any cooler that's advertised as compatible with Intel and AMD should fit your motherboard.

I'm having the exact same issue. This CPU cooler cant be larger than about 80-85mm in length. Otherwise it hits the second ram slot. Did you have any luck sp1jp?

I actually ended up buying a different mobo afterwards, The MSI FM2-A75IA-E53, Which is just as good I might add and I went with a nice Noctua cooler. The Asrock board really isnt worth the time and effort , but if you do some research you can basically " Mod " a Backplate onto it with a few plastic spacers from your local hardware store.

I misread the title, I actually have a FM2A75M-DGS MOBO (budget gaming build :p) paired with the AMD-A10 and a RADEON 6870. It turns out I had a little more space than I thought and can fit most heat sinks that come with 92mm fans. Went with the LOGISYS Computer AC2200 92mm Hydro CPU Cooler, really nice cooler hard to believe it was only 16 bucks.
