Points:
1) You might be able to modify the boot file you messed up from within Linux but I've never done that myself.

2) Another option is to boot from the Windows 8 installation disc and REPAIR the boot files (You'll have to reinstall Linux likely).

See OPTION FOUR:
*I recommend restoring the last RESTORE POINT before trying anything else such as fixing the boot files.

If you don't have a disc you can't do any of this.

3) Restore your BACKUP copy of Windows 8 that's on the hidden partition of your laptop.

*If you bought the laptop with Windows 8 installed it should have a backup image you can restore. This will likely erase all files/programs you have though.

Other:
When you sort this out, I strongly recommend you create a BACKUP IMAGE of your C-drive to a different hard drive, after you have all your programs installed and without Linux installed. If you have issues in the future you can RESTORE Windows.

You can also purchase Acronis True Image 2013 for more advanced backup options.

I know this is old but... People need to understand (especially laptop folks)
Most systems have moved to using UEFI as the hardware boot loader for Windows 8. When you are loading Linux onto a later laptop (or Desktop) that already has W8 loaded, you need to make sure you verify UEFI mode is used and not BIOS mode. This applies to the Operating system mode as well as the Setup and operation of the various drives (each drive might be different). There are UEFI mode systems only, as well as systems which allow the mode to be mixed (UEFI and BIOS).

Here is the UEFI documentation from the Ubuntu community. Please Read this BEFORE INSTALLING Linux.

"Each OS has a key integrated in its bootloader, and the UEFI system reads that key and compares it to a database stored in its memory. If the key is not present in that database, it won’t let you install that particular OS. To some, this might be disadvantage, as some Linux distributions might not be supported. However, the is a workaround, as UEFI allows users to manually add a new key to the database and install the OS they want. One operating system that has Secure Boot permanently locked with no possibility of adding a new key is Windows RT."
