Hi all, relative newbie here!

My computer doesn't boot up normally; gets past the first screen or two of information then stalls. However, if I go into the boot menu option when it starts, it gives me a list of boot options. If I select the right one of those, my computer boots fine (I'm using it now, even)

Is there anyway I can fix the BIOS or the whatever it is that's broken so I don't have to manually select my hard drive every time?

System details:
Windows Vista 64
Motherboard: ACPI x64
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad
Hard drives: 2TB WD (main one) and a 500GB seagate

Background to how the problem started:
My uncle's computer died, I was attempting to connect his hard drive to my computer to salvage his documents. I assumed, rather foolishly, that my computer would load as normal and I'd have access to the other hard drive, having done this sort of thing before. If something on his hard drive was corrupted, and my computer tried to boot from that, could it have changed something on the BIOS? Needless to say, his hard drive is no longer connected to my computer; everything is back where it should be.

if you have your hard drive 1st boot device,2TB WD (main one), your 500GB seagate second boot device and the dvd-rom 3rd........... hit F10 and then ENTER to save. machine will reboot itself and should boot normally.( correctly )

if you have tried this and it doesn't stay, try replacing the battery/reset boot order/try again.

Okay, I've tried that, but I don't seem to have a full boot menu where I can change or save things. My startup options are Del for setup or Tab for BIOS POST message. Setup didn't work. The BIOS POST message gave me the option of pressing F8, which just brings up a list of the things I can boot from. I also discovered that pressing F8 in the first place brings me striaght here. If I select from this list, it boots fine. If I leave it to its defaults, nothing.
