Just got a secondhand Asus GTX295 card to replace my GTX260. My PSU, a Silverstone ST75ZF, is a 750W PSU that powered the GTX260 without a problem.

Now I'm having hiccups with the GTX295 - things like games getting past an intro screen then sending my Dell 2408 monitor into screensave mode (the only way to get out is by rebooting).

I'm using two PCIE six pin plugs (both labelled 12V4) into an 8 pin PCIE adaptor to power the 8 pin slot on the GTX295, and the other power slot (6 pin) is being provided by a 6 pin PCIE cable off the PSU labelled 12V3. I thought this combination would provide enough power for the card but the problems persist.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the info - something I was totally unaware of! Have been out of PC building and tinkering for over 5 years now and it shows:ouch: I did a clean install of the GTX295 driver so I may have also gotten rid of any profiles I had for the game in question (Mass Effect 3) - although I don't recall setting any up when I had the GTX260.

Anyway, thanks again and I'll give the profile solution a shot and let you know how it went.

Cheers,
Chuck

Hi Dirty,

Thanks for confirming that I got things right, it's always a relief when you get some expert advice saying you haven't stuffed up.:D

Cheers

The GTX 295 is 2 downclocked GTX 280 GPU dies on one card. Two video cards in one.
The GTX 260 is a single GPU die card. So you would not of had SLI profiles for the 260 card.

They also have a sandwich version (the one I have) which uses two cards, one processor on each, linked by SLI ribbons.
