we have our File server clustered and data is on old IBM DS3000
and running out of room . Cluster nodes are win 2003 servers .
what we need to do is Migrate data off old storage to new storage
and point cluster hosts to new storage and hopefully keeping mount points the same so clients /users will connect to new storage asap....kinda need a outline of steps to do this (dont want to miss a step)...already read migrating from 2003 to 2008 but we will be staying on 2003

Sorry, but that's impossible no answer without detailed information about your setup. The DS3000 is a family of storage devices and you don't even describe how it is connected to the cluster nodes. And how do the clients access the files? Mapped network drives? Databases involved? What cluster method are you using? MS cluster server?

basic file server just data, no DB's, no Apps
connected through fiber Channel
clients use Mapped drives to shared folders
Active/ Passive using MS Cluster service (winserver 2003)

Shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have a free fiber port to connect the new storage. Setup the new volumes and copy the data. This may help for the initial copy: http://codesector.com/teracopy. If you don't want to disconnect the user while copying the data, sync them later: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id... or this: http://allwaysync.com/index.html
Next would be to delete the folder shares and set them up on the new storage with the same name. That way the mount point (servername\sharename) should stay the same.

Thanks great info ....hoping it was easy enough just didnt wanna miss something important or something to lookout for ....so you are talking about Cluster admin to delete shared folders and recreate to new storage ...thanks again
