SWTOR almost entirely messed up my computer.

The other day I downloaded Star Wars Knights of the Republic for the first time. Normally when I play any other games at the highest possible graphics everything runs smoothly with zero lag at all no matter what I'm doing in the game and I usually run around 60 fps.

When I finished installing the game after a good 4 hours putting 15GB on my 1TB HDD, which this computer is less than a year old, I have a lot of space, I went to run the game. When I first got into the game on detected performance which it set as highest it was lagging badly, 5 fps badly.

I exited the game and checked to see if any of my other games were now acting like this, in which they were. Diablo 3, Saints Row 3, Skyrim, Counter Strike Global, even Portal 2 was running slow, no matter what display settings I changed it ran the exact same.

I went to re-install the drivers for my video card and my motherboard. Once I restarted my computer, everything went to hell. I have two monitors setup but It was only detecting one of t hem yet had duplicate display. It wouldn't get out of 800x600 resolution in which it is normally 1920x1080. I have a Razer Anasi keyboard and it wouldn't even detect it so I couldn't type and I'm lucky my mouse worked.

I re-installed the MOBO drivers and the keyboard was working again and re-installed the GPU drivers and it was working normally again with the resolution so it is not running as bad as it was but to avoid lag I now have to run medium or low graphics on my games, even older ones, but when it comes to YouTube videos, they load at 1080 just as well as they did before the big crash.

I have 8GB ram, 7850 sapphire GPU, i5 3470, 750W PSU, Corsair 500R and an ASRock Z77 Extreme 4. I'm wondering if the motherboard is not processing the GPU and the CPU correctly, if the CPU is dying because apparently SWTOR is a CPU heavy game, or if my GPU is dying. Before I take it into an electronic store to be fixed ot have anything sent back for warranty, I was hoping if anyone knew what could be causing the problem and if I could possibly fix this at home.

I've had strange lag in games before and discovered it was actually one of my hard drives failing that was causing it. I've never heard of a game install that's caused this much trouble and I play TOR quite a bit and never had any kind of trouble. I also run a Dual Monitor Setup and with a GTX 660 I run TOR at max settings with no problem.

Try defragging your system and listening to your drive when you start up an intensive game. After that I would try running a Graphics Card Test to see if the card might be going bad. Just go down a little check list to check each part and see if something might have an issue somewhere before sending it off to a repair/warranty Center.

considering i've been playing SWTOR on the highest settings with my PhII x4 965 and 9800GT, i'm sure your system can handle it. Not sure what the slowdown is.

though my resolution is sorta low since it's an old monitor.

Not sure bro. might want to check out the Bioware forums for similar issues and see if anyone there has a solution (in the self help forums)

I have tried defragging it quite a bit and running my virus scan just as much and no results, I use trend micro titanium for virus and I ran the test, nothing is working as it should

I'm not too familiar with the test pictured but is it saying that the Measured speed of your 3.20GHz Processor is only running at 2.10GHz?

I would run a couple of other tests besides this one to confirm the results shown. It never hurts to have 2 or 3 opinions on the matter at hand to see if it's consistant.

I realized it was a user error that could have pretty much destroyed my computer. For the CPU fan, when I took it apart again about 3 days ago I noticed I messed up on originally securing the fan correctly on the CPU, so I removed the fan, added a bit more thermal paste, and reattached the fan correctly, and now everything is perfect, this was my first build so I had no idea what I was originally doing, and it makes sense why it wasn't working with a CPU heavy game, now all is good. Thank you everyone for your help, sorry to have wasted your time.
