FX8350 Temperature Readings are... bizarre at best?

Hey all,

So I installed my new FX8350 processor today (motherboard is the ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0, for reference). Although I am using the stock fan (temporarily - I've ordered a Hyper 212 Evo after hearing how loud it got, but got to sit tight until it arrives...), I did clean off the standard paste it came with and replaced it with Arctic Silver 5.

So, the problem. CoreTemp is giving me some frankly insane temperature readings - dipping as low as 8 Celsius and jumping about all over the place, from 30 to 10 within a matter of seconds. I'm wary of pushing the processor at all just now - partly, I'm ridiculously overcautious and partly because I have no idea what temperature the damn thing is actually idling at?

I'm getting 35 celsius as the CPU Temperature from the motherboard sensor, but... I don't know. Should I be concerned, or just push ahead and see what temperatures it hits?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help out!

That seems pretty normal compared with what others, including myself, have experienced.

For some reason, lately some of the temp sensors have been...off...in some of the AMD motherboards. You may have to calibrate the sensors with software, or if you can figure out how much they're off in what direction, some people just adjust it in their head once they've figured out what it's off.

Appreciate the suggestions. It seems that the temperatures are only acting very strange at low temperatures - somewhere around 35 degrees, the temperatures fluctuate much less. As you approach mid-40s, it's as expected and climbs steadily?

Alright. In that case, thanks very much for your help. I'll start pushing it a bit and see where it stands - will hold off on anything crazy heavy until the new cooler arrives! Thanks again.
