Hi i am trying to get a Sparkle NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS Graphic Card (1GB GDDR3 64Bit, PCI-Express 2.0, For my dell dimension 5150C as a game i bought requires a higher shader level...my other issue is the power demand of the graphic card must be very low, as it is expensive to upgrade the power supply as it is a dell special........i have looked at alternatives, but its somhard to find out the power demand...

Any help would be appreciated

The 8400GS has a very low power draw: 71 W at max. Even with an old computer, I would not be too worried about it. But yeah... the joy of having a Dell and their proprietary PSUs...

By the way, your 5150c probly has a 305W power supply.

It looks unlikely that i will be able to get this card. I am now looking at a HD 5450 again its meant to have a low power demand, but opinions differ if it would be ok for my 5150 pc......
I am not using the on board graphic card, but an ATI radeon x300/x550/x1050 series card......
Hopefully the hd 5450 will be ok and has a better shader level

Well for the HD 5450, from what I read people manage to use it with a 220W, while 3dGuru recommends a minimum of 300W. Assuming your computer has a 305W (which I think it does), you should be fine.

How much are you paying for that GPU?

EDIT: Geez... apparently it really doesn't draw alot of power when gaming; something like 10-20W. That's crazy!

2nd EDIT: In all honesty, all the sites and reviews that don't recommend using anything under 300W were doing tests on computers with beastly CPUs... kind of incredibly shortsighted IMO. In that Dell of yours, your CPU most probably doesn't draw nearly half the watts as a modern CPU does.

You really should be fine.
