Laptop to Toshiba HDTV

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Media center w/XP. I am using a VGA cable to hook to my Toshiba HDTV. But Nothing connects. Nothing from the laptop show up on the tv. I use the remote to change the tv to pc input. Suggestions?

You also have to tell the laptop to output to the VGA port. Fn+[something]

Alternatively, you can right click on your desktop, select "Screen Resolution" from the context menu, then click on the drop down menu next to Display:
