Im going to get the noctua NH-D14. It comes with 2 fans that i need to plug in, each 3 pin connectors. I can plug them in the motherboard just fine, but i know that ill get a message telling me that the cpu fan isnt plugged in. I can disable cpu fan monitoring in the bios right?

My question is, if i disable the cpu fan monitoring, will i still be able to observe the cpu temps? That is all.

Solution
Check the bios on your motherboard. Most bios will have an option for fan control of either PWM (4 wire) or DC(voltage) for 3 wire. Set your bios to DC or voltage control. Chances are, it is already set that way - the third wire is a sensor line that responds to input from bios/mb. As temps in the cpu increase, fan sensors gets signal to ramp up; as temps decrease, fan sensor gets signal to decrease. Lower temps=lower speed; higher temps=higher speed.

You can check this easily by getting hardware monitor (free) and prime95 or intel burn test (free). Open hardware monitor and check cpu fan speed - start prime95 or IBT - as stress heats the cpu, your fan speeds should increase.

Ok. The only problem is, the cpu fan only accepts 4 pin connectors. The noctua fans are 3 pin(Im pretty sure they are 3 pin). They come with something where i can plug both fans on the cpu fan outlet, but that lowers the rpm. Is there a 3 pin to 4 pin connector that i could buy? And will that affect rpm?

Ok thanks mark. You already have the best answer, which ill do in a little bit. My last question is, where can i download hardware monitor and prime95? I looked them up on google but i dont like downloading anything from sources im not too familiar with.
