Already purchased everything except the video card, not really planning to change anything except potentially the mobo. Thoughts on overall build would be nice though.

Had to return the old video card as I realized that I must have the Quadro 4000 (ughh)
Decided the i7 is best (not overclocking it so didn't get the k)

Does the 2x16 video card work to it's full capability on the 1x16 mobo? Should I change the mobo? It says it is compatible.

You have the spec a little screwed up. Most z77 mb have one pic slot that run at full 16x speed. If there two video slots on the mb the mid range mb will split the speed as 8x 8x. On some low end mb you can have it split as 16x and 4x. The speed you were posting was the pci 2.0 or 3.0 spec. To get the pci 3.0 mode you need a ib CPU and pci 3.0 video card and a x77 chipset.

The intel x77 chipset will run in pci 2.0 or 3.0 mode depending on the CPU and video card installed. The pci video slot on your mb runs at full speed with one card.do to lack of pci lanes on the 11xx chipset when you add another card you lose speed on the video bus. Most new mb will split the speed to 8x. For two cards. The 2xxx intel mb have more free pic lanes so you can add more then two cards without slowing down the pci bus.
