Hi all, I'm in the process of finally upgrading my old faithful card, but I am a bit worried about keeping it cool. My HD 4850 idles at about 65ish and when gaming can get to 90. I hear that the newer cards run cooler and before I made a big purchase was curious....for the newer cards should I upgrade the fans in the case? (these are the stock fans that came with the PC which is a HP) And also does anyone know a card about the size of the 4850....I think its 9.5-10 inches.

From what I can find out from articles on the web the 4850 is known to run pretty hot so 90 celcius is actually normal for that card. Newer cards have much better cooling systems so I wouldn't worry about that. Unless you have a really small PC case with no room to spare. If you are only looking for low profile cards the HD7750 is the way to go.

The newer cards do run cooler as they are much more efficient. What you will need to be careful of is the type of card you select. If you are still using the psu that came with your HP, I would be careful about how much card you get. The 7750 is the fastest card you can get that will run on the power provided by the PCIe slot only (no additional power connectors needed).

If you decide to go to a higher grade card that requires 6 or 8 pin PCIe adapters (PEGs), I suspect your psu will NOT have them, and even if it did, I think you would be running a risk using a molex to PEG adapter.

The 7750 will fit without problems and your existing psu should be fine for that card. Keep the dust bunnies out of your rig and insure there is good airflow through the case. If you have at least one (preferably two) intake fans in the front and one exhaust on the rear you should be fine.

thank yu for thatheads up!I was looking at the GTX 650 ti Boost and a new psu, but the 7750 is under $100 and no need for a new power supply. I'll do a quick look at all the brands, lol didnt realize so many companies made this card. Also, for these, is there any harm in refurbished? I am going to buy it new but just being nosey since my sound card was refurbished and it works just fine. But I know gpu is a lot more delicate and didnt want to cut its lifespan where its not necessary
