Windows XP build help

I was wondering if this would work for a cheap quick build?

I have a bunch of old computer games that say XP only such as Battlefield 1942 complete and NFS: Most Wanted(the old one) and I have some computer parts laying around I could use for a 2nd build but I don't know if those parts meet min requirements for those games...

I want to build a 2nd computer because I want to use the extra parts I have...

If you need to run something using xp. Run it in Xp compatibility mode. There's no reason to build a separate pc. Most everything will run just fine with that.. Very very few apps won't.

As I am fond of telling people, I can run Diablo 2 on my win7 64bit machine. The only thing that gives me grief is a network game of C&C. C&C supports IPX for its network protocol and win7 doesn't support it. Single player runs fine, just can't group/LAN play it.

I was always able to get C&C to network. But XP requires you to install the IPX/SPX protocol. Once that's done, its easy peasy as my kids would say. Problem is MS removed IPX/SPX from Vista and you can't install it. At all. I've heard there are work arounds but I haven't had much luck with them. If you want single player only, there aren't any/many worries. I've been able to play what I want with Win7 64 bit.
