I have HP a6683w desktop, removed Vista, has XP, added BFG Tech GS-550 550W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.8 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply, GeForce 9500 GT 1GB; Mboard= stock Micro-ATX- 24.4 cm x 24.4 cm AM2. I looked at ALL Mboards w/same specs (AM3+) at Newegg and TigerD. Cannot exactly match (mostly I/O port config). Is it too risky for problems? Is only safe way to upgrade is to use supported CPU with stock Mboard, then video card and RAM?

All mobos come with their own I/O plate. And you have to find an AM2 or AM2+ mobo, because your AM2 processor isn't compatible with AM3 or AM3+.

So, to get this straight, you want to keep all the components but the mobo?

Want all new components, AM3+, micro ATX Mboard, compatible CPU (no prob), Vcard, RAM. I see same I/O ports config on some mboards, but size not 24cm x 24cm.
