hopefully your computer came with an install disk or you made one. If so put that in and follow the directions.

Otherwise you can try a system recovery which will reset all programs and settings (you will still have to manually delete your documents though because they are not deleted). You can access it by restarting your computer and then pressing one of the F keys indicated on the bios screen. Note not all pc's have this feature though.

As said above, re-install the operating system.

Next though, you should download CCleaner and install it. Run the program and at the bottom of the "cleaner" tab you'll find an option that says "wipe clean space." Check that box off, then go down to the options tab. Under "settings" check off the "secure file deletion" option, and set it to at least 7 pass in the drop down box. Now go back to the cleaner tab and click run.

This process ensures none of your data can be recovered. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Note, it will take a very long time to wipe the empty space. This is normal and to be expected.

My personal opinion, if you are going to sell your PC to somebody and you HAVE ALL re-installation Discs.

I'd run DBAN dereks boot and nuke CD on it. This will securely erase the entire hard drive. Though you will have to re-install everything after.
