How to fix windows 8 update failures

I had about 40 updates to install- now about 3/4 updates fail when i try and install them- these are often important security and bug fixes,
what should i do?
i heard that uninstalling sound and video drivers might do the trick...

Go to this website and download the Windows update diagnostic tool and run it.

If that doesn't fix the problem completely hit the Windows key then x and run the command prompt with admin privileges (elevated command prompt). Type "sfc /scannow" without the quotations and a space between sfc and /scannow. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

okay, so i did a clean install of windows (i think thats what it's called)

now i'm down to 7 un-installable updates:
KB2836988
KB2922241
kb2798162
kb2785094
kb2779768
kb2770917
kb2768703 (this one wont install, the rest fail during the restart)
kb2756872
