Currently I have the ASUS p67 pro3 motherboard. I'm running a i5 2300 Sandy Bridge right now, and just received my i5 3570k Ivy Bridge. I've gone to my motherboard page and under CPU support list it says the i5 3570k is compatible with P3.10 BIOS version. I'm still running on P1.40 So I downloaded the EXE file for the BIOS update and when I run it I get the error, "Your chipset verion on this motherboard is "B2", and due to Intel chipset limitations, B2 version chipsets do not support Intel 3rd Generation CPU (Ivy Bridge CPU), so the BIOS update process will be terminated. Thank you!"

Is there any way that I'm going to be able to use the new processor with this mobo, or do I need to return it?

Quite a few first gen LGA 1155 boards will not support Ivy Bridge. My Gigabyte P67A UD4 will not. You will either have to get a new board or return the CPU.

If you have a B2 motherboard it means you never got the updated motherboard with the B3 stepping after the recall. Very early LGA 1155 boards were recalled due to SATA problems in the chipset. They were replaced for free by the motherboard manufacturers and upgraded to B3 stepping models. I had to do this. I got my system in January 2011 a week after Sandy Bridge was released. Recall boards were issues starting in March/April.

That's dumb. This is the link to the exact mobo I purchased(had the link saved)

So now it looks like I now need to buy a new mobo. Fun. Should have just sold the old tower as a whole and built a new one. I've replaced the video card, case, PSU, and now the CPU.

If you have a B2 board it means you got it very early in 2011 and you should have been notified about the recall. As I said it was free for everyone. It was a pretty big deal at the time.

Yep you got a B2 then. The recall cost Intel over a billion dollars and was pretty big news.

My first board had the problem and only 2 of my SATA ports worked. That was fun for 4 months since I usually use 5 or 6.

If I remember correctly newegg handled the recall for me since I bought the board there. Newegg and Gigabyte both contacted me though I believe.

The last line of the press release lists the final date for taking advantage of the free exchange offer.

Please note that failure to replace the flawed motherboard before June 30th, 2011 will be considered as waiver.
