CoD4 Punkbuster issues

So I had issues with the launcher and decided to go to the website (Punkbuster) to fix it manually. I get the launcher run it (admin mode) ,then hit accept and it says first time running needs to check for updates, I click ok, then it just disappears and reappears like 5 minutes later, but when it reappears it instantly crashes. I don't know what to do so if anyone else has this problem or any ideas about it please share. Also here is a link of the launcher I downloaded http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Also, I have the game of Steam

do an uninstall and reinstall of PB and see if that helps.

I uninstalled it and then it did the crashing thing again.

Also now that I uninstalled it it works on none of my games, so that kinda made it worse :3

Update: Got it to launch, but no games show up and when i hit check for updates it crashes.
I have tried re-downloading.
So I think it has a problem updating.

you can also try to uninstall and reinstall the game. If you got COD 4 from steam you will have to install PunkBuster A in order for it to work. I actually had to do this for both the disk and Steam version recently. I have tried using the set-up on my other PC and it worked, so I am trying to find what is restricting my program from updating. I have even turned off my anti-virus and firewalls and no luck.

the services that I linked to are different than the setup. your choice whether to try it or not.

make sure the your fire wall is allowing the program through.

What I was trying to say is this fix is not relevant to the problem I am having. I however have tried it, with no luck. However I would like thank you all the help.

When you did an uninstall didi you make sure you did a complete uninstall? did you check the HDD's and make sure there were no remaining pieces? delete the registry entry's? starting to sound like it just is not installed correctly.

Actually, u need to download 2 files. First one the one that is checking for updates and second one which reinstalls punkbuster.
SEcondly, type services in start menu.. Search for pnkbstra.exe and then right click on it...then properties and then log on . then tick the box saying allow services to interact. Then launch the game. When the game opens..press alt+tab again go to services and do the same thing with pnkbstrb.exe. And there'll be no punkbuster issue now as u wud have done a clean re-install. gg
