g70 laptop new battery won't charge

I got a new battery for my HP g70 laptop. It won't charge.
Running vista x64. I tried swapping chargers and it still won't charge. works on AC power. HP battery checker says to connect the ac adapter. the battery monitor says the ac is connected but not charging. I tried uninstalling the ACPI control method battery driver in the device manager. no go. Any thoughts?

Add you battery in the laptop
Conect the adapter and plug it in the power outlet
Do not power on you laptop.
Leave it like this for 5-6 h or better for the night.
At morning if you still cant charge the new battery take all you Laptop and abttery and adapter and go to you battery dealer
You may need service.
