I have an Intel i7 sandy bridge 1155 unlocked processor 3.5ghz overclocked to 5ghz running windows 7 ultimate 64bit

Asus motherboard P8Z68-V LX LGA1155

with 16gb kingston hyper genisis ddr3 1600mhz ram

1024MB XFX Radeon HD 6870 PCI-EXPRESS VGA CARD

CORSAIR HYDRO H100 extreme performance water cooling

coolermaster GX series 750w ATX PSU

nzxt phanton black gaming case

i wish to up grade to the intel i7 3820 2011 sandybridge 3.6GHZ OVECLOCKED TO 5GHZ

with ASRock X79 Extreme9 LGA2011 motherboard

would all my other components be compatible with these changes???

AND SHOULD I MAKE THEM OR WAIT FOR THE NEWER PROCESSORS TO COME DOWN IN PRICE!

Solution
You're wasting money buying the i7-3820. Buy the i7-3770K instead - they're near identical in terms of performance and the 3820 only has a limited locked multiplier where the 3770K doesn't.

You won't be able to overclock the 3820 to 5Ghz. It does not have an unlock multiplier for easy overclocking. You will have to change the FSB and I highly doubt you will be able to get it to 5Ghz (not even considering the use of watercooling).

Besides, you won't see any improvement over the 2700k or the 3770k which are arguably the best gaming processors on the market right now.

I did notice that it didn't have a multiplier i'm still skeptical about the new cpu's cuz although the 2700k has only 4 cores they are basically 4 dual cores and it can overclock higher than any other standard pc i've ever seen outside Microsoft lol so speed wise it keeps up with the best of them but its the motherboards that let it down; limited rams space and usb 3 space and generally i thought that newer processors were supposed to be better all round but there not. really I wanted to get this processor in a 2011 motherboard but r they compatible no!!! Such a shame they should remake it and call it the 3990 2011 processor.

What are you trying to do that you need the bigger bus, more than 32 GB of RAM, and four USB 3.0 slots? If you needed something that heavy, in which case you most likely aren't gaming, then you would want a more powerful 2011 socket CPU, not the starting 2011 socket CPU.

It has a multiplier but it's limited similar to a turbo boost. There's a rehash of LGA 2011 coming later this year - Ivy Bridge - E.
