I'm buying a new SSD soon (Samsung 840 PRO) and I want to know how I would go about transferring programs from my HDD to the new SSD. I'm not to worried about games or web browsers, it's programs like Adobe After Effects that I'm worried about. I know that they After Effects has important files installed all over the place and there is no way (that I saw) to simply reinstall it to the new SSD. I will be putting a fresh copy of Windows 8 on the SSD so it's not like I'm going to be cloning anything.

Bottom line: How can I transfer programs from my HDD to a new SSD without going through any huge hassles?

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I should mention that I'm getting a bigger SSD and I will not be putting any games on it because I really don't care if it takes a few seconds extra to load the game. I mostly want a fast OS and fast programs.

The huge hassles is that you have to reinstall the programs. And why is it a problem to reinstall After Effects? The installer will put the files where they belong.

Assuming the SSD is the new C, just reinstall.

Interesting problem: It appears as though there is a program to move "Steam" games, which also have hidden folders and are known to be difficult to move without problems, but one person, UNKSOL, points to a program called "Steam Mover" which he claims can move any program. You may want to read this thoroughly, but it looks like it will probably work. It is several comments down in this one month old question: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/72091-63-options-tran....
Hate to use you as a guinea pig, but if you are brave and it works, you might want to post your success or failure! It seems all other posts suggest you must re-install, but there must be a way!
Just looked all over and this program may be the only one. It seems there used to be a program called "change of address", COA and COA2, but they stopped working with windows 2000! It appears that software companies don't want people to be able to do this since it would make copying programs illegally easier!

Putting Steam on a different drive:

For everything else, how is that any easier than just reinstalling from the original install file?
Might it work? Maybe.
Will an actual reinstall work? Definitely.

Thanks guys, I will definitely check out some freeware for re-installation since windows doesnt have the option to reinstall After Affects. Also, I heard about the program/command mlink that works like the steam mover (which I already have) so I'll try it out but I doubt it will work with programs that install things in multiple directories.
