Hey guys,

So I am fairly good with computers (or I like to think so) but I'm confused as to what is happening here.

I got home last night and noticed my computer was off. Went to boot it up again and my hard drive (with the OS on it) was no longer detected at boot up screen. Opened up the case, checked all the cables, tried again and no luck. Actually, both my main and secondary were no longer being detected. My third one was however. I found this strange, upplugged and replugged all the cables, rechecked everything. No luck. Odd thing is, the second and third drives are showing up at the boot up screen, and when I open up the actual boot menu, I only see the actual name of the 3rd in the list. The other two are still actually THERE, but the name space is blank.

So, first I figured "Alright, the drive is simply dead". Sucks, but whatever, try to install windows on the drive that is being detected. So I put a copy of Windows on a flash drive and go about installing Windows as I usually do. Everything works fine up until the very last reboot. Everything sets up, but on the last one it just bring me back to an option of opening up the set up again.

Also worth noting I suppose that whenever I try to boot up ANY of the options at the boot menu I get the dreaded blinking cursor.

I have no idea what is happening or what to do!

Only thing I have not tried is actually formatting the 3rd drive, as I do not want to lose all my stuff on there if I don't need to. Last resort, as it were.

I have a AMD Phenom Quad Core 9850, ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe mobo, 2xNvidia 9600 GT's. The drives are hooked up via SATA.

I'm sure I'll have to give more details but I gotta figure this out! Any help you can would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
Could be two issues. One it a power issue with your power supply.could be some of the output is below atx spec. The other issue could be the mb Sata chipset had a failure. I would try one drive at a time on the working port. Make sure bios still set to IDE or achi mode. If you have another pc see if it boot from or if you can see any of the data on the hard drives.

Okay, I will try that.

I still don't get why I can't get the new install on the working drive to work though,
