I recently downloaded the pirate version of osx mountain lion on my mac book pro. There is nothing wrong with it but my school is giving the upgrade for the legal version for free. I don't know if there is a difference I can still update mountain lion but I don't know if in the future I will be able to upgrade to new osx upgrades.

More about : upgrade osx mountain lion legal version pirate version

I tried but they said they can't do anything because its not a legal version and they can't consult.

With the private version no updates at all.be careful you do not wind up in jail.

I have gotten updates though it was a untouched install it works like basic lion same memory too but i'm just on the line of getting the legit and go on from there I don't agree with piracy because I now understand the effects.

Some of the Pirate versions have malicious software pre-installed (depends where it came from), this is why Apple refuse to have anything to do with them. If the upgrade package is the same one supplied to other OS X users, you can extract all the necessary to do a clean install (Google search will tell you how), this is probably the safest route.

will the clean install delete everything on the harddrive?

If you use Pirated software you are on your own, no guarantees, no warranty, no support etc.
In most cases a re-install of OS X will keep data and applications unless you choose to do a data wipe, with a pirated version all bets are off.
It's normal (common sense) to back-up any data before an OS upgrade...

Some of these pirate versions have virus problems plenty in them.I would not take a chance.
