MSI 970A-G46 Motherboard - No video, three beeps.

Hello there everyone.
This is my first build from scratch, so you may have to bare with me a little.
I've slowly built my PC and placed everything inside in it's according place.
I linked it up with an MSI R6870 1GB GPU, and an XFX 550w ProSeries PSU. The CPU inside is an AMD 6300, and I don't have any other CPU's, since this is my first build.

Is there a clear problem? I have a feeling it's an output problem, as every single fan is in use and there are no clear 'light' errors.
However, the motherboard speaker makes this sound: BEEEP (small pause) BEEP BEEP. (<- two quick beeps)
I've read somewhere that the BIOS needs to be updated to make it work with an AMD 6300, if that's the case, I may be in a little bit of trouble, as I have no idea about anyone that owns pre-gen AMD CPU around here.
Anyone got any other ideas?

I've tried using HDMI and DVI on the GPU. Still doesn't work.
Everything is hooked up, the RAM, HDD, Optical Drive etc.

Hi,
Check here:
http://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/barcodeImage/MB_1_datecode.jpg
and see what's the board's manufacture date. This way you'll know if the BIOS does support the CPU.

The FX6300 came out some time last year. So it can't be the CPU?
What could the problem be? I'm about to try another GPU, I'll let you know how it goes.

The CPU is supported (probably the BIOS version is v1B). Try starting the board with single RAM stick installed if still the same with different GPU.

One long and two short beeps is a video card problem.
Did you connect the power cables to the video card?
If so try removing the video card and reinstalling it.

I plugged everything out and then back in from scratch, took a while but it seems to be working now.
However, now I have another problem.
The hard drive I am using is from my old PC which had Windows 7 installed, but I want to install Windows 8. I stick the disk in and change the boot priority, but it STILL boots my original Windows 7.
I don't quite understand what's going on. I've gone in to the BOOT menu by tapping DEL many times, and even manually chose the CD/DVD drive and it still doesn't work?

It means that the Windows 8 DVD is not bootable. Try making a bootable USB stick and copy the Win 8 files on that USB drive.
Then boot from USB.

Thanks for the answer, but that's really strange.
I literally used this Windows 8 disk last week on my laptop, and it installed fine.
I'll give it a go anyway. Should the USB stick be in FAT32 or NTSF format?

The boot DVD is most likely displaying a message that states to boot from DVD press any key. On Windows DVD's if a Windows OS is already installed you need to press a key in order to boot from the install disc. It will only last a very short time and if you do not press a key will default to booting from the hard drive.

Download the Windows 7 USB>DVD tool from http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msus/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool/ . And yes even though it say's Windows 7 it will work with the Windows 8 ISO or DVD just fine. You will not have to worry about what the format of your USB stick is as the program will format it for you.
