Alright so I kind of have a massive problem. I have recently bought all of my components(took me 6 monhts)though I believe there are compatibility issues.

Whenever my graphic card is needed for a game, or to rate my system(crashes at Direct9 Aero or something) my computer crashes/freezes.

I have checked all my components and it is not the CPU, not my RAM, not any of my HDD or SSD, nor is it my DVD player. I don't believe the drivers are the issue too(maybe they are but I don't know why).

I use Catalyst Control Center 13.4. All I have installed is:

- Flash Player 11(doesn't seem to cause the trouble, have tried without it)
- AMD CCC
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Visual C++
- Realtek Ethernet Controller Driver

My build:
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Sapphire Raedon HD7850 OC
OCZ600MXSP
AMD FX8150
Corsair Vengeance 4 x 4 GB(9-10-9-27)

I spend the whole weekend trying to fix my build, I have already did a clean install to be sure.. After spending most of my hours on Google I discovered neither my Motherboard nor my PSU is on the Certified Products on the AMD website. Is that what is causing my problems?

Do I have to buy a new PSU?

Or do I have to switch my Graphic Card?

Or...my motherboard...?

No I am not overclocking the card. And I do not know how high the temp is when crashing but when running idle = 26*C.

I haven't tried that. Though the crashing occurs in the stock bios version and in the latest bios version..

How would I go about that? I don't have a second monitor to watch the temp's on.. Oh by the way, just found out I can run Live for Speed in windowed mode. Does that make any sense? I'm getting more confused by the second..

Have you tried uninstalling your drivers and then running driver sweeper/atiman uninstaller before you installed the driver again? The reason to run one of those programs is to clean the leftover junk files from the drivers out of your system before a new install.

If you follow those steps, also give this driver a try: Catalyst 13.5 beta 2 http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/amd_catalyst_13_5_beta_2_download.html I've been using this driver since it came out and it's been rock stable so far.

You have to do these extra steps(driver sweeper/atiman uninstaller) before installing the 13.5 beta 2 or you will have problems.

Also check to see if your RAM timings are correct in your bios for the model RAM you have. I've seen issues before where the timings would be set kinda generic and cause issues until you manually entered them. People wouldn't know what was going on because at a light load no issues would ever present themselves. Once a large load came into play the crashing or random restarts would persist. Usually updated motherboard bios's would fix the issues, but if the ram isn't listed in the officially supported list for the motherboard it may never happen. It's a long shot, but you never know....

One last thing, try downclocking your GPU core and memory to see if it becomes stable. If it does it is most likely a faulty video card, or a faulty power supply. If you have a different power supply to try with your build, try that.

I don't believe left-over junk files are causing the problem. Since I did 2 clean installs, I really don't believe wrongly installed drivers are the problem. Though I do believe there is something wrong with the drivers(?). Whenever I open a new window or whenever the GPU is needed, the graphics being loaded, quickly appear in horizontal lines and then it either crashes or continues to display the window(after some delay).

Now I have to experience random crashes aswell when just browsing Google Chrome or doing any other desktop work.. It's not the RAM either as I did 1x 4GB, 2x 4GB, 4x 4GB, setting the timings manually.

Oh also I forgot to add, my computer only recognizes 50% of my available memory. When I have 2x 4GB installed it shows only 4GB. When I have 4x 4GB installed it shows only 8GB... What's up with this?? :/

When I'll get home from work I'll be sure to downclock the GPU and see if it becomes stable. Unfortunately I don't have any other PSU laying around here.

But I will also try to swap out my current GPU with an older one to see if the crashing still occurs - if it does I'll just RMA this shit.

- I'll keep you guys updated, thanks for the help. Every help is appreciated, kind of losing my patience with this build :/

Alright a little update;

- Managed to get the pc running for now. I uninstalled my drivers and installed the new ccc 13.5 beta drivers. I also underclocked my GPU to; 720MHz and 4200Mhz. Just wanted to make sure to be safe for now, will try to overclock it again if no crashes occur. So far nothing and managed to play 1 hour of Live For Speed :)

- About the RAM, it recognizes all the 4x 4GB in each slot. Though it only uses 50% of whatever is available. Should I try upping the voltage aswell?

Computer crashed again.. After playing Live For Speed and doing all kinds of desktop work and installing new programs it happend again when rating my computer..

It came passed the Direct9D Aero task where it crashed before. This time it crashed when running the "Windows Media Codec"(? - or something - ?) at ~70% of the total assesment..

Did you even read my posts? I don't want to sound offensive but your post makes you look like a full blown retard. If you would've read this thread thoroughly you wouldn't even had to answer, lol.

So far Computer is running stable again, will report if crashes occur. I reseathed everything in the computer, did another clean install and installed all the drivers and needed software to get my computer running(this time correctly after doing it 4 times). Haven't had any problems with running Far Cry 3 on optimal settings so I guess I am good for now.

See you until the next crash, lol.

Good too hear man. Are you running the 13.5 beta 2 driver? If so then it must of been the leftover junk files causing the problem after all, if it fixed after another clean install of windows and the driver. Driver sweeper would of done the same thing and saved you a lot of time and effort. Just for future reference. ;)
