I've been looking for a power supply to power my current rig plus some near-future upgrades.

I settled on the XFX Pro 850W for $150 at NCIX, until I saw the XFX Pro 1050W for only $5 more AR.

Both units are 80+ Gold certified, fully modular, SeaSonic platforms.

Given the prices I was just going to impulse buy the 1050. But on second thought...is there any reason I should prefer the 850W instead of the 1050W unit considering these prices? I.e.) optimize load more efficient performance/life expectancy/save a few bucks on annual utilities? Or simply to not have to deal with annoying/risky MIR?

Here is what it needs to power:

Overclocked 2500K @ ~4.5GHz
2 Overclocked 7950's at ~1100MHz core in XFire
3 HDD's and 1 SSD
5 140mm fans
X-Fi Titanium Soundcard
16GB Ram
Corsair H100i or possibly a custom loop.

Please advise.

Thanks for your responses guys. Sounds like you are on the same page as I am. It's a tough deal to pass up. One thing that is a bit tempting about the 850W though is its efficiency is truly bordering the platinum certification, and in at least one review it actually performed on par with those standards. Still the 1050W will allow me to get silly some day.

I don't know enough about electrical engineering (well, nothing actually) but given my system specs is there any concern about using the 1050W at too low a load all the time? Or the 850W at too high a load?

Getting a PSU that is more powerful than you need will not be a problem, it will only use what your build needs and there won't be a problem there. So that said, get silly one day! ;)
