My current rig:
CPU: Phenom II x4 955 BE 3,4 ghz
GPU:HD 6850 Sapphire
Mobo: Asus M5A87
PSU: Some crappy 500w psu

Im planning on upgrading my rig... so my question is... What video card can max out all current and future games (Battlefield 4, GTA V) at 1366x768 resolution without any problem whatsoever. I was gonna buy 7970 GHZ ED but then realized that it was complete overkill. Im thinking maybe 7870 ghz ED or 7950. Also... do i need to replace anything in my current rig? Mobo? CPU? PSU?

Your current system should be able to dominate any game at that resolution.
Only consider further upgrades if you purchase a higher resolution monitor.

This is the very first thing that you really need to replace..
take some reputable psus brand, at least 500 watt from seasonic/corsair/superflower will save your day

I recommend 7870xt, the most valuable 78xx class in term price performance..
Faster than regular 7870Ghz, even faster than 660Ti for 240 bucks..

well, actually, even 7770/7790 will max out everything on your display resolution..

#1 how much are you spending on upgrading?.
#2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... <- myst edition if you ever looking into the 7870 series should be ok with that crappy 500w
#3See if you can OC your CPU to 3.8ghz

1366x768 resolution no offense is not that high with todays current GPU

Yes.

Why not get a better monitor and play at a higher resolution - the detail is much better at 1080p than at 720p.

CX600 is decent. Your system should already max 1366x768 in most games.

Sea Sonic S12II-620 Bronze is better at almost the same price.

1st: I dont really have a budget. Could buy a 7970 if i want i just dont want to overkill. I just want the most bang for the buck for my resolution.
2nd: I found a cheaper Sapphire 7870XT with boost (im replacing my PSU with a 600w corsair psu btw)

3rd: With my current case and stock cpu i wont be able to OC to 3,8 ghz. However... im thinking like fuck it! Ima replace my case and cooler and buy a FX 8350. Sound good?

Yes , as many said your PC is already good and ready for MAX-gaming but if you really want to be on 100% of power video card you can get a Radeon HD7990 if you can (or a HD7970) on Cross-Fire mode or something from nVidia like a GTX Titan or GTX 690 (GTX 680 will work ok too) with/withouth SLI mode.

That's just silly the 7870xt he wanted to get is already more then enough for his resolution. Why should he buy a 1000,- gpu.

None of the upgrades suggested are going to make much of a difference, your money would be better spent on a higher resolution monitor.

Nope..
Phenom II X4 is back to track as the recommended gaming processor, because many games right now can utilize all cores that available in the processor..
Just try to overclock this fossil to 3.8Ghz - 4Ghz, and you'll have decent gaming processor..
