I own an HP p6703w desktop and I've upgraded it with a 600w power supply, 12gb of ram, and XFX Radeon hd 6870 2gb DD edition gpu.

Instead of saving up to build a whole new computer (since mines not THAT bad) I want to just upgrade the processor to the best I can get for this motherboard, I am limited to a 95w though.

So far I've found:

AMD Phenom II x6 1045t
http://goo.gl/ZicTh

I really want to be sure that I'm getting the best I am able to with these limitations

i would say other than the 95watt x6s would be the 95watt x4 955, but only difference is obviously the core count and the x4 is at 3.2ghz, and the x6 at 2.7ghz, both are locked and dont overclock as easily and some times as far as a unlocked "black edition" cpu. For the cost i would go with the x6 just because its brand new at $90 and a 95watt x4 will be quite more expensive. I used my x6 at the stock 2.8ghz with a 5850(similar to the 6870) and works great on bf3, BOII etc just fine so id go with the x6 for its cost and performance.

Wat are u upgrading from?

The only issue I see with these CPUs are I can't find where to purchase them... The one I posted is at Tigerdirect and in stock, these other ones are discontinued or severely overpriced on AMAZON.

I think getting a phenom X4 wouldnt be a great upgrade, it is better but i dont think worth finding one that is prob used. The x6 u gain two cores, and lose 300mhz, but is prob still a performance increase. If i remember the only difference from the athlon and phenoms is the L3 cache, but maybe more so going to a quad core to another quad core thats slightly better. Also did i mentioned if u found a reasonably priced x4 it would most likely be used off ebay or something, through tigerdirect u know its new and well under $100

i recently upgraded my 2005 Computer from a AMD Athlon 4800 X2 and Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe MB with 2gb of ram to a AMD Phenom II x6 1045t and Asus M5A97 r2.0 with 8gb and using most of the old parts and found it to but a great boost to games and such

i say go with the 6X the speed boost of the 4X may not be helpful with multi-thread programs plus its a newer processor and you can get it at Micro Center for $80

Also, my main concern is Gaming. I play Minecraft (with Technic Pack), Skyrim (heavily modded), Battlefield 3, Warframe, Guild Wars 2, ARMA 2.

My main reason for this post is I have been having fps issues and I assume its my lack of processor power and I also know that the current processor is bottlenecking my GPU, which I have overclocked to 950mhz (gpu clock) and 1150 (mem clock). I know that ARMA 2, Minecraft, and Skyrim, and Guild Wars 2 are pretty cpu intensive.

I also just read on Tigerdirect the it has "Turbo-core technology" and boosts up to 3.2ghz, will it do that even with my locked BIOS?
