With the remaining money, i would suggest an aftermarket heatsink and fan for the processor :)

Considering you are going to need a $300+ video card to MAX out those games, good luck on getting the rest of the system, OS, etc for $500 and not have it bottleneck the card you need.

People need to realized maxing a new game just released at 1080p and the words budget doing go hand in hand. You can get close to maxing them for $800, or spend more. As the other poster said though, you don't need 10543 threads on the same topic. Make one and stick to it.

Not sure what you mean by 'mind AMD graphics' - the only issues they have are in Crossfire. AMD is incredibly good when it comes to single GPU cards, and much better bang for your buck than Nvidia when you consider the free gaming bundles that you recieve.

I have no preference one way or the other, and typically my choices are solely based on money available, but the truth is, currently, bang for the buck wise, amd has the market cornered. Also, i wouldn't suggest sli nor cf for a base rig, spending what one can on the best single gpu you can afford is always the best option. As a possible future addon, sure, why not.

I agree I prefer single cards when possible to. SLI is a better option though in multi card setups which is why i suggested the 650 ti. Ideally the 650 ti boost if he could find them would be even better as a pair of them benchmark better than a 7970 and for cheaper at least where I live. A single 7950 or 7970 while good cards just aren't that great imo in crossfire. If it wasn't over his 800$ budget i'd recommend a 670.

edit:
My bad but you'd need a board like this one since the one i first listed with the nvidia gpu doesn't support sli
