Hi all,

I've just acquired entirely new components for a new system from Newegg. The parts area as follows:

i7 3770k
ASUS p8z77-v/Thunderbolt Mobo
G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 RAM 16GB
Corsair 1050HX PSU
Noctua NH-D14 cooler

When I turn on the system, the red CPU led lights and the system immediately shuts off after spinning up some fans (CPU and CPU_Opt) for about 1 second. This is almost exactly the same as what was happening before Newegg RMAd the motherboard for me, except then it was powering up for about 5 seconds and then shutting down and back on for 5 seconds in an endless loop. It will not POST. The factory motherboard BIOS is 1708, which is quite recent.

-I have tried breadboxing the system.
-I have tried single sticks of RAM in every slot on the mobo to no avail.
-I have tried my other computer's PSU: Corsair 850HX that has worked beautifully for 3 years. Same result.

I have noticed that this motherboard will not power 3-pin fans on chassis fan headers 2 and 3...just like the RMAd one I sent back! All fans work when plugged into a functional power source. Both the 24-pin and 8-pin connectors are plugged into the board. The green power led is lit all the time.

The ASUS phone support tech told me it sounded like I had a defective mobo since it wouldn't post and it wouldn't spin up 3-pin fans on chassis fan headers 2 and 3. Do I have 2 dead mobos in a row?

Or could it be that the CPU led is right and the processer is actually DOA? I cannot see any bent pins on the CPU or mobo...and this is the second mobo with the same behavior.

Is there a short I am missing...even with the mobo sitting on a cardboard box?

Please help...I am so frustrated. Built 4 systems and NEVER had anything like this happen.

The first mb sounded like a old bios issue. The mb was posting but could not set the ram speed up right and was showing the old over clocking failure. The new mb showing more signs that the CPU cooler on to tight and is crushing..bending the mb traces. If it not the CPU cooler look to see if the rma mb has bent pins on it. All it takes it one pin to touch another to cause these new mb not to post.

No beep codes. The mobo does not have a speaker and the case I have (Cooler Master HAF X) doesn't seem to have one either.

There are no bent pins that I can see. Every pin seems to line up perfectly with every other one in the grid. I uninstalled the Noctua NH-D14. I tightened it down carefully...if I screwed it in any less tight it would wobble. It doesn't feel like there is excessive pressure on the board, especially given the cushioning that is installed on the backplate that is included with the cooler.

Make sure your not using video power cable that a six plus two for pci power. Have you bread boarded it with one dimm in a0 slot and just onboard video??? If yes and have the same issue then rma the mb for refund and get a new mb. I think new egg sent you an untested returened mb that was doa.
