Ahoy fellow tom's hardwarians, Today i was Cheerfully playing one of my favorites game, I By accident kicked the plug, To my surprise, when i restarted, System32 was corrupted/missing, i had the Windows XP CD around, So i fixed it,Restarted. THEN software was Missed up, So i fix it, glad i had backups around and such.

When windows XP finally booted up, on the loading screen, on that little "freeze" that happens with the loading bar, The screen goes COMPLETELY BLACK. And the keyboard also stops responding, But the mouse's powered, Yet, No little "Hey there, you booted windows XP be welcomed with this little music" Sound, Nor anything,Just an empty black screen. I Can clearly notice the Computer's running, i hear the fans and processor yet, No music, No response from keyboard, Just an "Empty" Monitor, Its not like it turned off or anything, Its an Brighter sort of black, Not 100% black like an OFF monitor. So i have NO idea on whats going on with that, Pretty weird. So, i request your help.

Relevant specs:
Graphics card: GTS 440
Ram: 2G
Monitor:Syncmaster 740N

Sounds like a damaged video driver or program in start up. Boot into safe mode using f8. Uninstall the video driver from add..remove programs.
Run msconfig...go to the start up tab and uncheck everything.
If it boots fine to the desktop start with the video drivers. Then in msconfig turn one item on at a time.

Thanks for the swift response, i just tried to do so, It boots normally, then when the safemode desktop would appear, black screen

If you can get to Safe Mode with Command Prompt, or find that using your Repair option from the XP CD, create a new User Account and see if that goes further. It may be that your own account's Profile has gone awry.

At the Command prompt, type
net user /add fred coffee
and hit the enter key. That creates a new account called Fred and the password of coffee. See how Fred gets on when he tries to log in.
